With the NHS’s nursing vacancies hitting a high record with more than 40,000 vacancies across the country, nurses from other countries are welcomed by UK, so as to solve their emerging nursing crisis. However, there are some steps the aspiring nurses wanting to work in the UK needs to take care of.
To work within the NHS, the candidate has to follow these steps:
Step 1: Register with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
For registering with the NMC, candidates must have proof of:
- English Language Proficiency:
- IELTS Exam: a score of minimum 7 in each component or overall a 7, or
- OET Exam: a minimum of Grade B in each component, is required.
- Computer Based Training (CBT) – to prove their subject knowledge and skills.
Step 2: Apply for NHS Postings
After possessing these qualifications, the aspiring candidates should apply and find an employer who will provide them with a job posting under the NHS. Only after the completion of this step can they continue to apply for the Visa and the rest of the procedure.
Step 3: Apply for Tier-2 Visa
After receiving their posting, the candidate will receive a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS), from their employer, after which they are eligible to apply for a Tier-2 Visa offered by the UK Government.
Step 4: Reach there and pass the OSCE examination
Once the candidate gets the Visa approved, their employer would provide them the necessary means to reach there, which would include their flight ticket as well. After reaching the place, once candidate clears the Objective Structured Clinical Exam (OSCE) and the identification check that follows, they are eligible to work in UK as registered nurses under the NHS.
