The announcement “TheUS Accepts OET’ which appeared in many media has caused confusion among many nurses in different parts of the world.The truth is that OET has been accepted as an English proficiency test by the nursing regulatory body in the two federal states namely ‘Oregon and Florida.This is a good news for nurses already in the USA as they can qualify in the test and practise as registered nurses (if they meet other mandatory criteria).As immigration is a matter which rests with the USCIS (United States Citizenship and Immigration services) this news does not hold water as this is not going to benefit overseas nurses who need a valid visa to go to the USA.Recent changes in the immigration policy announced by US President Donald Trump have not been positive in the case of  foreign professionals who dream of going to the El Dorado -the USA.The proposed changes related to H1B Visas  are expected to adversely affect foreign workers especially IT professionals and IT companies.Even the plans  not to issue the coveted Green Cards  for people with H1B is not a piece of good news for people dreaming of moving to the USA.

The immediate danger is the possibility of a poor nurses paying a hectic fee for OET (nearly 35000 INR) to take the test which does not qualify for the US Visa hence nurses are requested to do their home work by contacting a reputed US Immigration attorney before taking the decision to take the test.
