If you are an Indian nurse, wishing to work in Canada, then we have some great news for you!
The province of Ontario has launched their long-term care staffing plan, ‘A Better Place to Live, A Better Place to Work’. They have come up with this new adaptive measure to meet the needs of all its long-term care residents. The Government of Ontario has decided to make their long-term care a much better place for the residents to live and the staff to work as well. The Government has taken steps to ensure a long-term care sector which is residents centered and provides the best care to the people. Currently, there are 626 long-term care homes providing care to approximately 100,000 Ontarians annually, supported by over 100,000 long-term care staff.
A Better Place to Live, A Better Place to Work: Ontario’s Long-Term Care Staffing Plan
The vision of this plan is to make the qualified long-term care staff more efficient in proving the residents a safe and a supporting living environment. The key of this plan is the Government’s commitment to increase the hours of direct care to residents to an average of four hours per day over four years. they will need to fill more than 27,000 full-time equivalent jobs which will be needed to reach to this standard. For that, they will have to train and educate new long-term care professionals. The Government also plans to invest up to $1.9 billion annually by 2024–2025, so as to implement the plan.
The Staffing plan focuses on six areas of action:
-
Increasing Staff Level.
-
Disrupting, accelerating and increasing education and training pathways.
-
Supporting ongoing staff development.
-
Improving working conditions.
-
Providing effective and accountable leadership.
-
Measuring progress against key performance indicators.
By addressing these staffing challenges, the government will improve resident quality of care, increase the ability of homes to recruit and retain high caliber staff, eliminate shortages and provide an enhanced workplace experience. This means that many more doors will open for more Indian Nurses and nurses across the globe as well. Opportunity available for nurses across different countries will increase with this plan of Ontario.
